Lewis Megaw leads Global Business Development at the Allam Advisory Group. He has led engagements spanning a range of international expansion strategy, competitive assessment and price-to-win analysis for companies globally.
Lewis has more than 35 years of international business development, banking and international trade finance experience in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean.
He advises global and domestic clients with export credit, foreign investment financing, and insurance solutions in multiple industries worldwide. His work has involved counseling C-suite executives on international market entry and expansion, with an emphasis on international finance and insurance deal structuring in support of companies with their direct sales or foreign direct investments. He also specializes in helping companies who need financing at different stages in their growth – money to cover the upfront costs of taking on new business or a loan to promote or expand their business in high risk markets and industries.
Lewis has been instrumental in the development of a number of innovative financing solutions for Canadian small and midsized businesses and large corporates who grew international sales and made investments in foreign operations. He uses his deep functional expertise to serve clients across a broad range of industry sectors, including technology, information services, life sciences, health care, mining and oil & gas.
From 1998 to 2013, he held several executive leadership positions with Canada’s export credit agency – Export Development Canada. During his tenure at EDC, Lewis was primarily involved in international and emerging market businesses specializing in project financing, foreign investment financing, bonding, financial security guarantees, insurance, M&A and integration strategies.
His most recent position with EDC was Regional Vice President, International Business Development where he managed EDC’s portfolio in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Significant achievements include multiple $200 million plus signings to global leaders in the automotive, life sciences, mining, oil & gas sectors as well as technology companies with subsequent follow on contract/supply signings on behalf of the Canadian export community of well in excess of $1 billion.
Prior to that, he served as Vice President, Manufacturing Sector where he championed a Canadian private sector strategy (all segments) in the secondary and health care technology sub sectors. Several key signings, aggregated across several sectors totaled $800 million, which included purchases by leading Canadian based manufacturers in the health care, life sciences, and green energy sub-sectors. Other senior positions at EDC included: Regional Vice President – Ontario at EDC, where he was involved in the in-bound investment by global corporates looking to expand their global reach. He also served as Regional Vice President – Western Canada (B.C – Manitoba) where he successfully generated $20 billion in annual business volume across all provincial sectors such as forestry, oil/gas, ship building, technology and services in key markets ranging from the U.S. to Latin/Central South America.
Prior to EDC, Mr. Megaw spent 23 years with the Bank of Montreal in a variety of senior positions including management of their commercial and corporate group in Manitoba.
He holds a professional accounting designation (CMA) from the University of Manitoba.
Mr. Megaw is based in Mesa, Arizona (50%) and Winnipeg, Canada (50%) and travels frequently to client and partner locations.
