Omar Allam, Founder, CEO & Global Trade Practice Leader

Omar Allam is the CEO and founder of Allam Advisory Group, a global trade advisory consulting firm. As CEO, he is involved in all aspects of managing AAG’s national and international operations and workforce, leading efforts to set the firm’s business goals and growth strategy, driving sales and revenue generation, performance and culture. He leads strategic international growth initiatives, which include oversight of sectoral teams and client work worldwide. He is also the leader of AAG’s Global Trade and Investment Practice.

Mr. Allam brings 20 years of private and public leadership in international business, foreign direct investment, and government policy that spans the Americas, Europe, the Middle East (EMEA), the Gulf, and Asia-Pacific.

As a global consultant, he provides clients with advice on international expansion and market entry strategy, business-model innovation, market research, business development, revenue generation and sales initiatives, strategic communications and marketing, government relations, project financing, and operations support in a diverse array of industries: agriculture and agri-food, technology, healthcare, education, public sector, life sciences, aerospace, not-for-profit/international development, business-to-business, transportation, infrastructure, energy, cleantech, mining, manufacturing & business services.

Omar advises multinational and domestic businesses on international trade policy and investment matters, international trade strategies, and market-access concerns. On international trade regulations, he advises on all aspects of economic sanctions, export and import controls, national security, government procurement among other topics. A significant part of Omar’s practice focuses on providing counsel to chairmen and women, to CEOs and executive teams of North American organizations on their global expansion, and to leading multinationals on their growth in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Gulf, and the Asia Pacific – while factoring in political risks, ESG, and corporate social responsibility obligations.

Omar is frequently retained by major global consulting firms like McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Oliver Wyman where he advises leading public, private and social sector clients.

Prior to founding AAG in 2014, Omar was a founding member, Senior Vice President, and Partner with an Australian-based holding company with a portfolio of ventures where he was responsible for setting and leading Canadian and global operations with full P&L responsibility.

He previously served as a former Canadian diplomat in Asia, Africa, and North America, as a senior consultant with the World Bank and chief and manager of international relations with Natural Resources Canada.

As a global entrepreneur, Omar played key roles in launching companies based in North America with a global presence has been involved in the build-out and management of several global start-up ventures spanning seed level to high growth venture capital-backed with operations in Canada, US, EMEA, APAC, India, and China. He has also held executive roles ranging from founder (4X), CEO, Managing Director, SVP, VP of Global Operations, Strategy, to strategic advisor and coach.

As a trusted source for the most respected news outlets, Omar is a frequent guest on Bloomberg TV, and has been featured and published in Forbes Magazine, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Canadian Business Magazine, Newsweek, the Financial Post, and The Globe & Mail.

He has extensive experience as a corporate board member and served on the Board of Directors/Advisory Board for a number of local and international organizations. He currently serves on the board of directors of Oikocredit, a global social impact investment cooperative based in the Netherlands. Omar also is a non-executive member of the Freshii Advisorii board, a Canadian fast casual restaurant franchise. He previously served as a Board Member with Crossroads International, a major international NGO that supports women’s empowerment in Africa; a mentor with Invest Ottawa, and a member of the External Advisory Board of the University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Research Institute.

Omar holds degrees in business, geography, and environmental studies from Bishop’s University and an executive certificate in international negotiations and mediation from Carleton University. He also has diverse training at the Canadian Foreign Service Institute and speaks English, French and Arabic.
